Note: Due to popular opposition to the adoption of Indian children by foreigners, there have been reports that non-resident Indian applicants are being given preference in intercountry placements.

Map of India Except for adoption by Hindus, Indian law has no provision for adoption. Children are placed under guardianship of adopting parents to exit the country, and adoption must take place in the parents' home country. In 2011, U.S. citizens adopted approximately 226 children from India. Infants, young children, and special needs children are available for adoption, as well as some sibling groups. The children reside in orphanages.

I have given birth to four glorious girls...they are each amazing! The plight of the Indian girls (50million missing) is the reason I don't sleep at night. Please, tell me what I need to do do to sponser an expecting mom (encourage her education and adiot her child). Honestly, not an empty offer. #9

" non-resident Indian applicants are being given preference in intercountry placements." Why? because they're "Brown" and their country fellows are "White"? What a blatant racism! #10
